The first SL Class can be had with 5.0 V8 or a 5.5 V8 with a supercharger which was followed by a 3.7 V6. This vehicle was first launched in 2001 as a safety car.

The third and final update of the SL Class gave the vehicle an aggressive front and the engines are upgraded. The top end AMG gets a new 6.2 which replaced the 5.5 V8.
